New York State of Mind..

I went to New York City last week!

Here's where I stayed...

 Here's what I saw...

Here's what I wore...

Here's where I shopped...

IT WAS AWESOME!  I had so much fun lunching outside, riding in the subway, and visiting with a loved friend.  I did go for work and had great meetings that will lead to me being on Shop NBC (details to be reveled as they solidify...)  I love the big apple and can't wait to go back.

Tell me what's your fav place in NYC?  What do you like to do in the city that never sleep?  Share, share, share!

Shopping With Mom...

Those poor moms on this Mother's Day who are in the midst of shopping for and dressing a teenage daughter, our hearts go out to you!

Days spent in the mall where you feel like you need a Zanex and a martini to get through it...  Nights you lay sleepless worrying about the much too sexy outfit she is going to wear tomorrow...  Moments when you are fighting about clothing choices and you wish you had a son...

If you are celebrating today with a special afternoon of shopping it might just go something like this.

You imagine her loving everything you pick out just like she did when you went shopping at Gap Kids and Gymboree!

Instead she looks at you like you are out of your mind thinking that she would wear anything you suggest...

You imagine bonding over a nice lunch, ice cream cones, and a pedicure!

Instead she barely talks you because she is much to busy texting, Facebooking, Instagraming, Tumblring, Tweeting, etc...

You imagine getting matching outfits at the mall like you did for that Glamour Shot you did when she was 7!

Instead she can barely speak to you or look at you because she is furious that you are making her shop at the mall with you...

She wants to buy these!

You don't understand why she thinks these great 9" shorts are "uncool"...
She loves this tank top and is eagerly expecting you to buy it for her!

You wish she still had the fashion sense and style she did when she was 7...

She thinks that she must have this dress for the next formal dance!

You think her group photo from the prom this year should have resembled something like this.  No boys, no boobs, just bibles...

This is the swimsuit she wants for the "end of school, beginning of summer" celebration on her friends boat!

You feel this swimsuit is much more practical and appropriate for the occasion...

Recently a woman just couldn't take it anymore and wrote this opinion that was published in the Star Tribune of Minneapolis.

I was asked to comment on it by local a news station, you can link up to that interview and podcast here.

But I want to know what you have to say on this issue.  If you are a mother or a daughter let's hear your comments and suggestion on how to survive this phase of adolescence and still be on speaking terms.  Don't forget, if you need a mediator in the mall I'm your gal.  Email me at lindsey@fashionfixmn.com for personal shopping appointments!

Style Catalog...Silky

Sad news, it's the last day of the Fashion Fix Style Catalog post :(  Don't worry I have way more client style pics to share in the future.  If you want to be one of those clients give me a shout here.  Good news, next week will be my NYC trip review full of pics and my commentary on all things fashion, shopping and big city!

Silk tees and I have had a great romance these past couple months.  I have found the silk tee to be the perfect easy breezy item to outfit with almost anything.  You can style it with jeans for a casual day for comfort with out being frumpy.  You can tuck it into a skirt or pair of black pants and be out the door to work.  Lastly they are great for all season!

This is the Striped Crepe Tunic from Old Navy, buy here!

Great for cool weather, layer it with a boyfriend blazer or cardigan.

Wear this look to work, add a patent leather belt and you are out the door.

Ready for the warmer temps in this outfit, you could even do a great red sandal.

Style Catalog...Blazen

Today's post is a little peek into my heart.  I am a blazer fanatic!  I own more than the average gal and I am always trying to get clients into more of them.  It's another one of those piece that gets a lot of push back "It's too formal..."  "It makes me look boxy (aka to masculine)..."

Let me open you mind to a few styling tips from the pros when it comes to the blazer/jacket.  Follow these tips and you won't be disappointed.

1. Blazers don't have to be traditional, for example the one pictured below.  It doesn't have a lapel it has a mock/mandarin collar.  This detail will get the jacket away from looking to formal or masculine.
2. Show your feminine side by rolling the sleeve and allowing your sparkly bracelet to shine.  This will soften the look and make you look more relaxed.
3. Go out side the box and get a blazer in something other than black.  Picking up this third piece in a print or something with texture will give you room to wear it more casually.
4. Last wear is causally.  Two out of the three outfits below are with jeans and flats, one of the looks is simply a tee!  I even remind my clients to wear their blazers as a piece of outerwear.

This is the Herringbone Linen Jacket from Loft, buy similar here!

Style Catalog...Bling Around the Collar!

Day 3 of the Fashion Fix Style Catalog!  Well it could be day 4, but whose counting.  I landed safely this afternoon coming back from my adventure in NYC.  Don't worry pictures will be posted next week on the blog with my full commentary on all the fashion and shopping.

But for the time being let's chat about this fabulous blouse with all its jeweled glory.  As you are saying to your self right now "When would I ever wear that..." or "What would I wear that with..." I am giving you the answer!  Pieces like this stand out in a store and can be a stand out in your closet with help from a stylist.  What you need to do is just pair with more conservative layers and accessories.  Once you do that you'll be wearing it once a week!

This is the Tilda Rhinestone Top from the fab J.Crew, buy here!

No frills, just a great pair of flats.

Wear to work safe, a neutral jacket.

Wear to work fun, a bright jacket!

Wear it conservative, a navy cardigan.
