Stop, Drop, and Shop

This post idea has been burning on my mind since its conception!  Some of the most frequently asked questions to Fashion Fix are: Where are the best places to shop? When is the best time shop?  Well; today I want to take time to thoroughly answer the later of the two.  I want to give you insider information on how stores move through merchandise and the schedule of pricing.  If you have read my little bio, you know that I spent over a decade working in retail.  So the information I am about to provide is legit!

I have created a calendar here to show an overview of how seasons work in the retail world.  Take a gander and then let's break it down.

Let's start with the two best times to shop clearance:

January & July

Why:

There are two major seasonal changes that happen in retail, Spring and Fall.  This when you see a major overhaul in the look of the store.  Not only is there entirely new merchandise, but you see new marketing, displays, color schemes, staff, etc.  Because of this major shift, stores need to liquidate overstock.  Retailers are desperate to get rid of this merchandise and you will typically see additional discounts taken off of the already reduced prices.  Be careful though, stores do not want to see these purchases come back!  Often they will make any sale purchases final sale, which means no returns no exchanges.

Here's a peek at what I saw going on last week in the mall...

Next, two best times to preview new seasonal trends:

February & August

Why:

During these months stores may have not yet sold through the left overs from the previous season.  So, while they want to get to selling Spring/Fall goods they can't over do it with inventory.  What they do is release a "preview" of Spring/Fall.  This means that you will see a handful of pieces in new styles and colors.  But, I warn you!  Don't get all shopper crazy, these pieces won't last long and will most likely go to a markdown prices with in 3 weeks of arrival.  This is because this small collection is just a bridge to get us to the full release, that is when you want to go shopper crazy.  Sometimes these preview collections will arrive in stores at the end of January and July, but retailers are still in heavy clearance mode until February and August.

Last, best shopping when you want to re-vamp your wardrobe:

March & September

Why:

These two times of the year are when retailers and designers bring out the big guns!  This is when entire new collections are released and set the tone for the next 4 -6 months.  You will not find many store wide sales at this time, but you may catch a good deal on select styles.  Also; make sure you pick up your favorite fashion mag's March & September issue.  These issues are the most popular for fashion publication.  Don't feel bad paying full price during this time, just make sure you are getting pieces that will really enhance your wardrobe, and always set a budget!

I hope this helps you get on a good shopping schedule where you can keep to your budget and get what you need!  As always, to get style inspiration and shopping tools delivered straight to you, sign up to follow by email or Bloglovin'.

Happy Shopping,

Red, White, and Obvious

Here is my problem with getting dressed for any holiday; I love to look the part!  Sometimes though, that's a little too much.  I would be girl on the this 4th of July who looks like a walking flag.  Now that's not appropriate; for anyone (Lady Gaga... don't do it!)  On the flip side, you don't want to avoid looking over-festive and show up in the classic Old Navy 4th tee-shirt.  (But if you really want it you can buy it {here}.  It does look cute on the kiddos.)

There has to be a middle of the road... a way to look patriotic, be styled, be comfortable, and be dressed appropriate for the bbq.  Right?  Well you are right; there is!  I've got 12 looks with 3 rules you can use to look cute, summery, and patriotic this Independence Day.

First, swap out your blue for chambray.  (Chambray is just a fancy way of saying denim.)  This is a great way to look all American and not to obviously dressed in red, white and blue.  Mix it up with prints in red, gold accessories, and causal shoes.

Second, do orange instead of red.  On most complexions red is not flattering.  And when I say most complexions, I mean all.  I love red as an accent color in outfits, but red as a primary piece washes you out!  Orange on the other is much more flattering.  This is a warm color that gives you a rosy glow and deepens your tan; instead of bringing out your rosacea.  Orange is softer all around and will give you a great look for the 4th!

Lastly, toss in some yellow.  If you just can't get out of your red, white and blue outfit accessorize it with yellow.  It's a great color to break up color-blocked looks and stands out beautifully against navy.  Also if you are blonde yellow is your friend.  This color makes your highlights shine and eyes sparkle.  Wearing this color in the summer is sure to make you look like a beach beauty!

Go out and be proud, be patriotic, and be styled!

Happy 4th,

Lindsey

Google Out, Bloglovin' In...

Many of you already know that Google Reader is on its way out the door.  In light of that news many blog followers and blog writers are making to move to Bloglovin'.  Bloglovin' already has a mass of users and, I'm late to the party!  Here is a quick step by step on how to sign up for Bloglovin' and how to follow Life in Fashion (Fix).  Don't sweat it though, if this is all too much you can still simply follow by email.

Quick note, the web address for this blog is still lifeinfashionwithlindaisy.blogspot.com.  So if you search for this blog on Bloglovin' you will need to search Life in Fashion with Lindaisy not Life in Fashion (Fix).  Which if you are just joining us, the name change of the blog is all in effort to merge my social media life with my business life.  Business life being Fashion Fix LLC, you can read all about that {here}.

1. Visit Bloglovin' {here}.  This is what you will see...

2.  You can do one of two things, Login or Sign Up.

3. If you Login, search Life in Fashion With Lindaisy.  Then click to follow.

4. If you Sign Up, search Life in Fashion With Lindaisy.  Then click to follow.

5. You can also use Facebook to follow.

You may also see that there is now a Bloglovin' button in the side bar here.  That is a direct link to follow this blog.  Basically a shortcut around all of the steps I just listed, lol!

See you all in the new blog world :)

Plates; Not just for dinner...

Accessorizing is one of the BIGGEST struggles my clients have.  It's the missing link between just wearing some clothes and looking like you put together an outfit.  Layering on jewelry can take a look from casual to styled.  When clients tell me they don't know how to accessorize, they're wrong.  The real problem is that they can't find their accessories!  Once I get their jewelry out and organized, their eyes turn big and bright.  Clients see pieces they forgot they had and get excited to wear things that they haven't even taken the tags off of.

I get it.  It's hard to get it all cleaned out and organized, but try to think outside the box a little though.  Jewelry boxes don't always do the trick, and frankly they're ugly most of the time, with not very much storage.  So what do I use, dinner plates and serving trays!  You can use dinnerware for much more, such as business cards.  I just taped it off, painted it, and voila!

Why does this work?  I am glad you asked!  First you can configure the storage how ever you want.  You are not restricted to store rings and necklaces to how a jewelry box might be designed.  The white background helps the color on the jewelry pop and it makes your jewelry look more interesting.  Also it it gives you more space so pieces don't get hidden by others or get tangled together.
