Conquering the Mall Of America...... Eeek!

There is a wild jungle here in the Twin Cities.  Herds roam about, the environment is unpredictable, it's difficult to navigate, and you are always hunting for something while you're there!  There's only one jungle you'll find a fashionista in, and it doesn't have mosquitoes.  If you haven't guessed it yet I'm talking about the Mall of America.  Many of you out there do see the MOA as a jungle, and most of you don't want to venture to, or through it.  I however am expert guide when it comes this concrete jungle.  I know where to shop, when to shop, and how to shop while getting the most out of your time and money!

I love taking my clients to The Mall and dispelling all their fears and demystifying the secrets to being a MOA pro.  I love to take groups of women or work one on one with clients.  If you haven't seen some of my prior work (not to brag or anything...,) check out some images from this trip I took with 4 ladies over here from Wisconsin earlier this summer.

My latest voyage was with Jen, a top client from Fashion Fix.  We took on the stores at The Mall just last month.

Bringing Up Boobs!

Well gang, I did it!  I got my bra make-over from Amy Holland 'The Bra Lady' with Essential Bodywear.  It took all but 3 minutes into my time with her to say to my self, and out loud, "Why have I not done this before!"  1 hour with Amy has changed the rest of my styled life!  And I mean it when I say 'styled life'.

They mission of Fashion Fix is to empower women & build confidence, providing my clients with the tools and resources to be their best selves so they can live their best lives.  But my talents only run so deep, which is where Amy comes in.  Her knowledge and skills take it to the next level, literally, to level right underneath you clothes.  I talk loud and proud about creating shape in a woman's style though different tips and techniques when it comes to what you wear and how you style it.  What Amy showed me was how much difference the right bra makes when it comes to slimming your figure and getting the right shape out of your garments.

The pictures speak a thousands words!  I was shock at how much slimmer my waist looked and how much more shape my figure got when I was put into the Abbie Bra from Essential Bodywear It felt like butta' when I slipped into this undergarment and I didn't want to go back to what I was wearing! The bras from EBW have a comfort I've never felt before in a bra, even with under wire!  The best part of being made over and fitted by Amy was that she not only made me feel comfortable, but she educated me on the whys and whats when it comes to undergarments.

Did you know you should be fit and sized yearly, at a minimum.  No lie, when I arrived I told Amy I didn't even know what size I was any more.  Also, you only really 3 bras in your wardrobe.  "Every woman should have a 2 beige and a black.  You rotate these daily, wash every 3 wears, and they should last 12 - 18 months," said Amy.

A special offer is being extended to Fashion Fix clients only!  Clients will receive 1 FREE bra with the purchase of 2 regularly priced bras from Amy Holland with EBW.  More details at ...

1 Outfit 1 Day 2 Ways

http://lifeinfashionwithlindaisy.blogspot.com/2014/06/1-outfit-1-day-2-ways.html

Like many of you, my days are not always filled with glitz, glamor, and gallivanting around from one fantastic thing to the next.  Yesterday my hours were scheduled for a Target run, going to the bank, waiting at the DMV, and hanging out with some cool kids in the afternoon.  Shorts and and a tank top it was; there was not even an accessory to be found on me.  But after all of that running around, I did have a rendezvous scheduled with some of favorite ladies at Bar La Grasa.  Obviously I wanted to be a little more put together for the the crowd at BLG.  Digging through my closet in a rush and making a costume change wasn't going to happen.  I already had enough on my to do list, stressing about clothes was not going to be another one.  So I took my day look to a styled night outfit.

Key Add Ons:

Layering with a blazer.  This gives a structured look that the knit tanks does not have on it's own.  Also the blazer is in navy, much more approachable than black and keeps the look casual.

Style is in the details.  Rolling the sleeves of the blazer shows off the striped lining and gives is a cool casual summer night feel.  The tiny tuck is essential, this breaks up the all the fabric and shows a waist line.

Accessorizing right.  A long necklace draws the eye in and compliments the line of the blazer.  Also, gold jewelery elevates any look.  A chunky bracelet is easy and a quick grab.  Wedge shoes, not as dressy as a heel but gives you the same 'night out' style!

Mom's Make-Over...With Grace

Last night I had a great conversation with Jordana Green on WCCO Radio AM.  (If you're just jumping into this crazy space, I am the monthly resident fashion/style contributor on The Jordana Green Show.)  We talked about that awkward place where your mom needs a style pick me up, but you don't want to be the one to tell her!  How do you give a woman in your life the a gift that might send to wrong message?

1. Empowerment

Style is all about empowerment.  Do we as women feel as we are being our best selves, or are we settling for less than what we are worth?  Or worse, are we exhausting ourselves trying be and look like someone else?  The mission of Fashion Fix is to help women correct that wrong, and to give them the tools to feel empowered to be who they are in their best way.  Sometime all it takes is tuck here, a necklace here, great shoe there, etc...

Craft the message of your gift in way that says..."Mom I want to be empowered to be your best self this year!"

2. Confidence

Style can be used to give confidence.  Fashion Fix works a lot with women going through life change.  Women that are becoming empty nesters, making a career change, going through divorce, experiencing a mile stone birthday, and more.  Change can be positive or negative.  What ever it is, our style can help give us the confidence to achieve our goals.

Craft the message of your gift in a way that says... "Mom, I want you have time to be taken care of, instead of you taking care of everyone else!"

3. Smart

Style can be used to look and feel smart.  Think about it, we use that word in so many ways.  You've heard your self say before, "What a smart looking outfit."  Or, "She looks smart in that."  You may not be saying that someone actually looks like the have a high intelligence level, or they look like as if they went to Harvard. (Well, sometimes outfits do look like that, especially if they are wearing glasses.)  Fashion Fix works with women in their closet to find looks that help them covey the right message about who they are.  We are adult women.  Who are grown up and know how to dress our selves intentionally, our look should show that.  Fashion Fix's mission is to show women how respect them selves enough to wear something other than yoga pants everyday!

Craft the message of your gift in a way that says... Wait!  You might not need to send this message.  If you mom, sister, or girlfriend feels empowered, confident and smart in their style...  Well then leave them be!

Taking Back Control of Your Closet & Style

If you've been following along this year, you know that Fashion Fix has become a sponsor of Divorcing Divas.  This is an organization who provides tools and resources to women experiencing difficult life change due to divorce.  DD connects divorcing women to financial advisers, mediators, counselors, attorneys, beauty advisers, and more.  Their mission is to provide "...encouragement, inspiration, and empowerment to people going through the difficult process of divorce.  Through support, education, resources and hope, we show divorcees that they can find life ~ and a good life ~ on the other side. It's not the end... it's the beginning."

It's a perfect fit for Fashion Fix who's mission is "...to empower women & build confidence..."

As a sponsor I have the privilege of speaking at the support meeting (meet-up), that is held once a month.  Last week we talked 'dumping the frump', my favorite subject!  How do you take back control of your closet and style when times are tough?

1. You’re Either In, Or You’re Out
First start with your self!  There has to be acceptance of your self.  Acceptance of who are, where you are at, and where you want to go.  In order to be your best self you have love your self!

Then you can move on to your wardrobe :)  Editing and organizing your closet can show you more than how many pairs of shoes you have.  Sifting through clothes can reveal cuts, colors, styles, brands, etc that you have found to love or hate.  If you start to purge your closet and see that you own more sweatpants than real pants, you may have found to cause of your frump!

2. Get A Dress Code
Whether you are at the beginning, middle or ‘end’ of your transformation you are in a constant state of change.  Find style that helps you keep moving on to the next step.  Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue, has had the same hair cut since she was 15!  If the worlds most influential  fashion leader has a uniform you can have one too!

Find a garment that makes you feel comfortable and confident.  Then reinvent it till you are ready for the next style step.

3. Do It Different, Don’t Be Different
Be your best self, stop being disappointed that you can’t be someone else.  One woman’s style is another woman’s inspiration.  Pinterest, blogs, and magazines should be used to inspire you to try different looks and trends.  But it’s okay to do it different, wear trends and styles in ways that fit your body and your life.

Start by restyling the wardrobe you already have!

Do you need help?  Does executing these 3 steps sounds tiresome and difficult?  It's okay, Fashion Fix is here!  Link up {here}, and read more about in-home style consultations offered.

Dump The Frump: More Belts & Blouses!

Back again in the Dump the Frump series.  If this is your first time linking up to the frump busting blog you can read up on past dumps {here}.  This post is obviously going to include belting, if you know me you know I am obsessed with getting women in belts!  It is the most underutilized accessories that can make you lose about 10lbs instantly in an outfit.  I have styled almost every client in belts, and almost every client hates it at first but then can't live with out them once they see the difference.  More belting tips and pics are {here}.

What I want to also highlight in this post is the under-worn structured blouse!  Most women shy away from this article of clothing, mostly because it's difficult to find one that fits across the bust.  But, you can get around that.  Why I love the structured blouse is because even if you have to wear it a size up to fit right it still looks flattering!  This is because a good blouse will have darts and seams in the right places.  This will keep the garment structured with shape so you don't look frumpy.  Plus you'll see in the pictures below that if you style the blouse in the right way you won't look broad, masculine, or frumpy.

If you are looking through these photos and thinking to your self... I want to dump my frump! You can, just call Fashion Fix at 612-916-5340 or email lindsey@fashionfixmn.com.  You can also visit the Fashion Fix website or facebook page for more information.

If you haven't caught on, Fashion Fix is working to make a difference in not only the lives of women here in Minneapolis, but across the country!  It was on my business bucket list to be in a place where Fashion Fix could give to an organization that empowers women and builds confidence through various measures.  Well I am here and I need your help!

So how can you participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month?  Easy, shop and style with Fashion Fix!  Read up on all of those details {here}, Tuesday's post.

Okay, now that you caught up on how Fashion Fix is raising funds for BCRF it's time to show you what you get when you work with me!  You can get delivered - straight to your door - beautiful jewelry from Lia Sophia.  30% of Fashion Fix's monies will go to BCRF and Lia Sophia will give 10% to Susan G. Komen.  Browse the catalog {here} and see how I style one of the hottest pieces {here}.

You can also get a revitalized wardrobe for pennies!!!  How is this you ask.  You can purchase a Wardrobe Consultation for $100 and Fashion Fix will give 50% of monies made to BCRF.  You will learn how to change up your style with pieces that you already own.  No need to spend hundreds at the mall to get fresh style.  I will come and rework your clothing and accessories to create new looks and you will fall in love with your wardrobe all over again!

Here is a teaser.  This is a client I recently worked with, and in 2 hours we changed her style life.  I had her do a little homework and pull out 5 pieces in her closet that give her anxiety.  Then we made outfits with those 5 pieces using clothing and accessories that she already owned!

Do you have pieces in your closet that sit there because you don't know how to wear them?  Then you need to call me, and we need to get your appointment scheduled!  You will not only learn how to style your problem pieces but you will see how to dump the frump in some of you favorite outfits.

Belts, Belts, and Belting

I taught another class this past weekend at a boutique I love, Second Debut.  Once again I was in my happy place for at least 2 hours that day.  Well I was probably also happy when I took a nap later that afternoon.

I can not get enough of this stuff, I am telling you, these women rock who come to the Fashion Fix workshops/classes!  They are filled with eagerness to learn and have the best questions.  Which has now 'forced' (not really forced, I love it!) me to create a new label and series on the blog, "FAQ".  Because if one woman has a question, I bet there are 100 more with the same one.  What was asked...

When do I wear a belt and how do I wear one?

When

I say whenever you can!!!  Most of my clients want to punch me when I say "...tuck in and put on a belt."  But you need to wear a belt in order to create a waist line, or show off your waist.  It's a misconception that tucking in and belting will make you look wider.  It does the reverse!  If you cover your mid-section with too much fabric and no shape, you will look like you have no shape, enhancing the frumpiness.  Belting also helps to create a styled and accessorized look.  If you are checking your self out in the mirror and sense that something just isn't right or something is missing, it's a belt!

How

To keep up with the blog follow Fashion Fix on facebook {here}.  You will see when new post go up and also know when the next workshop or class is that Fashion Fix is leading.

If you are interested in hosting a class or scheduling a wardrobe consultation email me {here} lindsey@fashionfixmn.com

Happy Belting!
