3 must have jackets for spring!

I love talking layers ladies!  Especially when it's one that adds shape, style, and polish to any outfit.  I teach the Fashion Fix client a simple formula ::  top + layer + accessory = a styled look.  Your layer, or 3rd piece, can take on many forms.  Jackets, cardigans, vest, etc.  Having a variety of these '3rd pieces' is important.  Having variety keeps you from saying, "I wear this all the time!"  But variety doesn't have to mean plenty, it just means options.  You can keep it simple.  To help you with that simplicity here are the only 3 jackets (layers aka 3rd pieces) you need this spring.


1.  The denim jacket.  If you already have one, be sure it's up to date and current.  Your denim jacket should be a medium wash, fitted, and have little to no detail.  This will be your go to piece to wear with skirts, dresses, and colored pants or denim.  If you want to expand your style try pairing this casual piece with silky tops, black pants, or any other dressy piece for a mix of high and low.

2.  The cotton utility jacket.  This piece should be in cotton twill, have lots of pocket detail, and light weight.  Great colors for this jacket are tan, brown, green, and grey.  Keeping this jacket in a neutral color will give it versatility in your closet, giving you the ability to pair it with a variety colors!  I love accessorizing the utility jacket with a scarf or long necklace, complimenting the casual yet styled look of the garment.

3.  The navy blazer.  This piece should be fitted, hit at or right above the hip, and can be in a variety of navy shades.  This blazer is your best option for dressing up any spring or summer top while still being able to stay casual in a pair of jeans.  Having this blazer in navy is the key to it's style success.  Wearing a black blazer in spring or summer can look daunting and dark.  You'll want to have a layer that keeps your look seasonal and light!

Easy essentials you can shop at thrift!

I all that Christmas cash already burning a hole in your pocket?  The bonuses from work, the $10 our cute grandma sends, gift certificates from husbands who don't know what else to get, etc etc etc.  We spend a huge amount of time and emotional energy shopping for others the entire month of December, stressing out over ever gift giving detail.  Then on 12/26 it's time for you ring in the cheer for your self.  Before you go and blow your whole wad at the mall, finding your self overspending and under buying, let me give you a few tips on how to stretch that dollar.

I sped a lot of time shopping, (that's the understatement of the century)!  When working with a budget I take my clients to the Goodwill.  You can see all the past Goodwill style shopped {here} & {here}.  Here are 3 quick and easy buys you can shop and style when buying thrift and not breaking the bank!

1. Jackets and blazers.  These are great finds when rummaging racks at the thrift store.  Most women get frustrated when trying to style a blazer or jacket.  They feel boxy and/or masculine when they wear them.  So they end up in the donation pile, ripe for the picking when you show up to the Goodwill!

2. Cardigans.  I don't know what it is but women love to get rid of these, HUGE mistake.  A lot of the time women think they have to have a specific "outfit" for each of their cardigans, wrong!  So again they mistakenly end up being donated by the bag full.  Cardigans are layers meant to be mixed and matched with multiple pieces.

3. Scarfs.  These are accessories that are fun to swap out every so often.  Grabbing new colors, finding unique prints, and then donating the old ones.  So don't break the bank on this piece.  Scarfs are great staples to buy on budget so you don't feel bad when you get board with them!

Wearing Neutrals, Without Being Boring

Okay, okay...  You got me!  I love to wear black, and every other neutral there is :)  And if your are a client of mine reading this article you are probably laughing.  My catch phrase is "...get of black and get comfortable with navy."  But I must admit, the allure of black in the winter is very seductive.  So here's the deal; If you are seduced by the neutral, at least add some personality!  Recently I took my client shopping to the Goodwill to help her with this challenge.  Take a look and see how we put back the pizazz in her style.


1. You know me, I love a good red accessory.  Add this to any basic black outfit you will instantly feel 'Pinteresty'.

2. Go for gray.  It lightens a look and helps you feel a little more upbeat in the winter when the sun sets at like noon, lol!

3. Get some good scarfs in bright colors.  This is an easy add to any comfy winter outfit that doesn't leave you feeling frumpy.

4. Still wear floral.  Don't store this pattern away with the rest of your summer gear.  Floral against a dark layer will brighten your style and still be seasonally appropriate.

5. Look for neutrals in pattern.  I know this top is a little dizzy in picture, but its style is sharp in real life.  If you are wearing a lot of black break up the all the solid with a black and white pattern on your garments.

How red shoes can change your styled life!

The most famous pair of red shoes are of course Dorothy's sequined gems.  Those shoes carried her through the most memorable adventure of her life, and eventually brought her home safe and sound!  Those red shoes changed her life, and at times gave her the confidence she needed to keep her on her journey.  We all need shoes like that sometimes!

Red shoes are life changing, and they don't have to be sequined and from a dead witch.  However, they can be hand-me-downs :)  Check out the pair I found at the Goodwill while shopping with my client!  These shoes went with every single outfit we shopped and styled her in, it was amazing!  And, they took every look from good to great!  Don't dismiss the power of great pair of red shoes ladies.  They can be style life changing, and give you the boost you need to stay the journey day to day!

Ok, ok, I know is not red shoes.  But a red belt can make magic happen too.

Party In Review

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Fall Fashion Party hosted at Second Debut!  My self, Amanda from Bella Moxie and Dan Michael from Dapper Dan Michael had a blast styling all of you and answering all of your fashion and shopping questions.

A new addition to this season's party were the mini style workshops conducted through out the night.  Amanda and I taught guests how to style scarfs, how to accessorize with jewelry, and how to find the right fit pant!

My FAVORITE part of the night... seeing all the Fashion Fix clients who came out to shop and party with me at this event!  Thank you, thank you, thank you :) !
