See you every season!

It's getting crisper by the day here in Minneapolis.  I love it!  I have been anxiously waiting to wear my leggings, boots and chunky scarves.  The Fall brings pumpkin spice lattes, delicious apples, beautiful leaves, and purging the closet of all that warm weather apparel!  We talked about closet organization Monday, and how to decide what you seasonally keep and what you pack away.  If you missed that you can link up {here}.  This issue was raised by a woman who attended my Styled Right class that I taught last week in Prescott, WI.  If you missed out on that, you can link up to pics {here}.

As a follow up, I thought I would talk about how to exactly make those pieces work that I told you not to pack away.  Fashion Fix believes that your wardrobe should be productive and work for you, you should not have to work to wear it!  What that means is; most of your closet should be 4 season gear.

Such as chinos...

Knit dresses...

Floral tanks...

See You Next Season

Last week I taught my first open class in Prescott, WI.  I have to say, it was my happy place!  Getting a group of women together to connect, engage, and empower each other is an amazing feeling.  We talked about closet organization, productive shopping, and how to style.  Everybody came excited and ready to ask questions, which is exactly what I wanted!

Fashion Fix's mission is to empower women with education and resource.  Anytime I am with a single client or a large group it is my goal to create a safe and non-threatening environment for women to ask questions.   To write about all the topics brought up that night, I 'd have to publish a book (hmm... an idea?)  Instead let's discuss a question one woman asked that is relevant to now.

What do you pack away & what do you keep seasonally?

This was a great inquiry because whether you are living in a small one bedroom with a tiny closet, or sharing your closet with a significant other it can get cramped.  Rotating seasonal pieces can help keep your wardrobe organized and productive.  But what do you swap?

Think about fabrication.  You don't have a pack away all your light colored or cotton pants for the Fall and Winter.  Just stow your linen pants.  The piece on the left would be great with navy blazer and pair oxfords or some ankle booties!

Knit dresses are another great garment that can transition well into the cooler months.  The color-blocked dress on the left was a summer buy.  Pair it with some tights and boots, and I see it looking great in October!  But, your light floral printed dresses could probably go into the storage unit for the Winter.

Here is another great example of fabrication, plus color.  I love green, especially if you are a blonde; it looks great on you!  Layering all year round can really style up an outfit.  So keep your cardigans around for all seasons.  But pack away any light weight or linen layers.  You can still wear a knit cotton sweater in the Fall and Winter :)

Maxi dresses and skirts are hot, hot, hot!  People can not get enough of them, so how can you wear this trend in more than just Summer and Spring?  It's all about neckline and layers.  Maxi dresses that are strapless or tank style, keep.  One's that have a halter, pack.  Then pair it with a great jacket or cardigan and your are ready for Fall!

Layering pieces are needed ALL THE TIME!  Sleeveless shells and tanks are essentials for every season.  But there are limits to which ones you should be wearing when.  I love floral prints, they stand out beautifully under cardigans and blazers.  However, the print on the right has a little too much of a Hawaiian inspiration for Fall and Winter.  But the tank on the left would be perfect with a navy blazer, skinny jeans and tall riding boots.  Pack one, keep the other!

This and so much more is talked about at workshops and classes that Fashion Fix leads.  To keep updated on when the next class is and where it is link up to the Fashion Fix facebook page!  I can tell you right now that this Saturday, 9/28 I will be at Second Debut in St Louis Park leading a FREE workshop.  Link up {here} to see details.

Warby Parker

Sometimes the best accessory is one that has the simplest of style.  In come the glasses, for me I think aside from a statement necklace they are the ultimate accessory.  If you missed yesterday's post, link up {here} and you can see prime pics of my self and some of your fav celebs sporting the spectacles!

Ultimate Accessory

In my professional opinion I believe that their are 2 ultimate accessories.  The necklace and eyeglasses.  Here's the funny thing, neither of these two things have to be fancy schmancy or even real.  What!?!  If you follow Fashion Fix on Instagram you may have caught some photog moments in my favorite pair of glasses, and the secret...  They are not real, I have nearly perfect vision...

Here's a pic captured on the blog...

And one more from a guest stylist gig I did...

It's not just me, many celebs are spotted in spectacles...

So why the glasses?  They speak volumes to personality, style, taste, and trend.  And for me, when all else fails and I feel like I'm not having the perfect hair day, or my make-up just doesn't look right, or when I need to cover those bags under my eyes my glasses rescue me.  They always save the day and help me feel insta-styled.  It's tough finding the perfect pair for your face, so check my new favorite place to browse and shop for these accessories.

Link up to this great site, for better sight.  {Here} you read all about their product and mission.  For every pair of glasses you buy, another pair is given to someone in need.  What's more exciting is that they are launching their Fall collection tomorrow morning, September 10th at 7 am!  So tune back in tomorrow as I will reveal my top picks and must haves.  They gave me a sneak peak and trust me, you won't be disappointed!

Style Catalog, Packing Roundup

This is what it all amounts to!  It took my client and I two hours put this all together, you and I about four days :)

Just in case you are late to the party, this week has been a series of posts all about packing up for a trip across the world.  But, not only getting all your outfits packed, getting in it done so that your suitcase isn't over the weight limit.  My client here flew over the ocean and then floated around in it on a once in a lifetime cruise.  Fashion Fix came in and worked through her closet to make sure she was packed smart and stylish.  You can read all about what we did on day 1 {here}, day 2 {here} and day 3 {here}.

Let's pull it all together anyways.

4 Steps to Packing:
1. What are the essentials?  Determine what you need.  For example; 1 pair of shorts, 2 capris, 2 dresses, 4 tops, 4 over layers, 1 pair pants, 1 skirt, and accessories.  At this point no specific outfits need to be in mind, just basics.
2. Next look through your options and choose what you are going to work with.  A yellow tee, striped tee, silk top, neon tank, denim jacket, printed dress, black skirt, etc.  You get the point, pick out the actual items that you determined were essentials.
3. Then the fun part, style.  Take all the essentials and start mixing and matching them to create multiple outfits.  What you are doing is creating a catalog of looks so that all you have to do is pack your list of about 20 pieces and have 30 plus outfits.  These looks should range from casual to comfy to dressy!  No look left behind :)
4: Write it all down.  Luckily you can enlisted Fashion Fix to assist, so not only will it all get written down for you, but it all gets photographed and emailed back to you in a PDF!  Here is what is looks like...

Style Catalog, Packing Day 3

Hello!  If you are just tuning in to this week's blog series, let me fill you in...

I have some of the greatest clients, and they enlist the help of Fashion Fix to assist them in a variety of ways.  Two of the most common services requested are closet organization and styling.  In this case my client was traveling to the Mediterranean for over a week.  The catch is that it was by planes, trains, and... boats.  So she needed to pack light, dragging a giant heavy suitcase was not going to be in the plans.  Plus she needed room in her luggage to bring home fresh EVOO (extra virgin olive oil)!  Our styling session focused strictly on how the get her packed smart and stylish for this voyage.

Days 1 and 2 in this series of posts laid out all four of the steps, and featured 16 of the 23 outfits we packed.  The great part, we only have packed 18 pieces so far.  That's tops, bottoms, layers, and accessories!  Link up to see those {here} and {here}.

What's already in the suitcase:

Yellow Tee, turquoise cardi, stone capris, striped blazer, pink capris, navy cardi, white shorts, red flats, Striped Tee, denim jacket, Silk Tee, white pants, black skirt, gold belt, Knit Dress, purple cardi, white cardi, gold sandals

What we are adding to the suitcase:

Floral Top, purple pants

*Note that we only added 2 more pieces to the list and got 3 more outfits.  We re-styled pants, cardigan, skirt, and sandals from other looks.

Adding:

Printed Dress, black cardi

*Re-styled denim jacket, gold sandals, and red flats from other looks.

Adding:

Neon Tank, black shorts

*Re-styled blazer, white pants, and gold sandals from other looks.

Style Catalog, Packing Day 1

A couple of weeks ago I put together a very useful and unique style catalog for a client.  She used it as a guide for packing!  She was gearing up to take a flight to the Mediterranean and then set sail on a cruise for a week.  She wanted to pack smart, practical, and stylish.  In came Fashion Fix!  Here was our process...

1. What are the essentials?  We determined that at least 1 pair of shorts, 2 capris, 2 dresses, 4 tops, 4 over layers, 1 pair pants, 1 skirt, and accessories were needed.  At this point we had no specific outfits in mind, just basics.

2. Next we looked through our options and chose what we were going to work with.  A yellow tee, striped tee, silk top, neon tank, denim jacket, printed dress, black skirt, etc.  You get the point, we picked out the actual items that we determined were essentials.

3. Then the fun part, we styled.  We took all the essentials and started mixing and matching them to create multiple outfits.  What we were doing is creating a catalog of looks so that all she had to to was pack her list of about 20 pieces and have 30 plus outfits.  These looks ranged from casual to comfy to dressy!  There was no look left behind :)

Here is a look at 2 of the essential pieces we picked; and 8 outfits were created!
