Conquering the Mall Of America...... Eeek!

There is a wild jungle here in the Twin Cities.  Herds roam about, the environment is unpredictable, it's difficult to navigate, and you are always hunting for something while you're there!  There's only one jungle you'll find a fashionista in, and it doesn't have mosquitoes.  If you haven't guessed it yet I'm talking about the Mall of America.  Many of you out there do see the MOA as a jungle, and most of you don't want to venture to, or through it.  I however am expert guide when it comes this concrete jungle.  I know where to shop, when to shop, and how to shop while getting the most out of your time and money!

I love taking my clients to The Mall and dispelling all their fears and demystifying the secrets to being a MOA pro.  I love to take groups of women or work one on one with clients.  If you haven't seen some of my prior work (not to brag or anything...,) check out some images from this trip I took with 4 ladies over here from Wisconsin earlier this summer.

My latest voyage was with Jen, a top client from Fashion Fix.  We took on the stores at The Mall just last month.

I Miss You

                    photo credit: Erin Sikkink

Blouse {American Eagle Outfitters}
Tee {J.Crew}
Denim {Old Navy}
Boots {Mia}

What I miss...  Number one, this navy stripe tee from J.Crew.  Darn the red permanent that left its mark and took this top away from me!  Number two, I miss it being warm in March.  Although the temps haven't been terrible this month, I could stand a few degrees in the upward direction.  Number three, having time for photo shoots!  I remember this being a leisurely Sunday when my friend Erin came over to take these pics.  After we drank wine, ordered pizza, and relaxed.  Now I can't remember when the last Sunday was when Eric and I didn't have something scheduled.

What do you miss?

Cute Girl {Photo Bomber}

I have been rummaging through pics of old photo shoots and these melted my heart.  One, because they were taken my amazing sister, who has been an unshakable supporter of me and Fashion Fix since the beginning.  She comes to every workshop and is my best promoter!  Two, how cute is this little photo bomber!  She was watching from afar the whole time and just couldn't wait to jump into the snapshot :)  Three, seriously those sun rays make me sigh.

I can feel the sun and smell the grass in these pictures!

Every hour of everyday I receive dozens of notification, on just this one pin!  People just can't get enough of her style and beauty, who can blame them.

I love this look too, that's why I pinned it from the blog I follow, My Curves & Curls.  It was pinned from {this} specific post.  I got to thinking, why does everyone love this look?  Let's break it down.

1. Layer; adding a 3rd piece makes any outfit polished and put together.  Blazers are especially magical, when worn they really elevate a look.

2. Stripes; a pattern that is only two colors is an endless canvas.  You can accessorize a zillion colors in almost any shade with patterns like this.  A special note: two colored patterns in neutrals are the best; ie: navy & white, black & white, tan & white, tan & black, etc.

3. Bright Color; a splash of color in a jeweled tone is jazzy!  Mustard is always a surprise touch when worn, and it pops with navy.  But you could swap this out for purple, pink, red, etc and get the same effect.

4. Detailed Accessory; hand bags with hardware or metal jewelry adds interest to a look.  Layering in the right accessories show intention when you were getting dressed :)

5. Animal Print; this is the number print I advice all my clients to introduce into their wardrobe.  All stylist will tell you that animal print should be worn like a neutral, can be added to almost any outfit.

Okay Okay Okay, but how are women in Minneapolis doing this.  I'll show you!  See how Fashion Fix clients are implementing these style tips.

1. Layer

2. Stripes

3. Bright Color

5. Animal Print

Style on Sale! Still Under $15!

<a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/4415991/?claim=b4698rqx5fu">Follow my blog with Bloglovin</a>

There was more than I could fill my cart with when I was browsing the clearance racks at Target this week.  Everything they had left was deeply discounted, most everything was at least 70% of the original retail price.  A big misconception is, that what is left on those scraggly racks isn't worth bringing home your closet.  I believe otherwise!  This is when and where I find some of the best things in my wardrobe, and they often get the most compliments.  I wanted to show you what I found, all under $15, and all things you can wear to work and to play!

The first couple great pieces I found that you can see {here}.

The other ones are here!

Black jackets are great to layer with bold color or printed tops, they help tone down the patterns.

Use tailored jackets to style up casual pieces like tees and boots.

Black and white patterns are great to layer with jewel toned colors.

A structured dress can go casual, minimize your accessories and grab flats!

Holiday Attire Tips

This week I have been chatting alot about holiday wear.  And by chatting I mean tweeting, facebooking, and blogging.  Lots of clients are heading out to parties for work, play, and fun.  And lots of clients are having a hard time deciding what to wear!  Living in this northern tundra adds some difficulty, trying to style your self for a fancy event when the wind chill is -20 degrees stinks!  Another challenge is creating a look that feels festive with out being, well... a joke.

So my job is to keep you from looking like that punch line!

1.
Do - Dress in trend; lace, velvet, brocade, etc..
Don't - Dress in all the trends at once; looking like you walked off the set of Game of Thrones.

2.
Do - Go head to toe with color; mix it up with different shades.
Don't - Dress like a crayola crayon; trying to match everything exact from apparel to shoes to accessories.

3.
Do - Wear separates; mixing and matching skirt, pants, tops, and jackets.
Don't - Look like a politician in a pant suit, channeling your inner Hilary.

4.
Do - Look festive; metallics, green, red, etc...
Don't - Look like you are part of the decorations!

All looks were styled on the Fashion Fix Polyvore board!

More Dump the Frump...

Okay, first of all this post will be a great little test.  If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram you will know that today I am suppose to on bed rest.  I threw out my back, again!  Man Friend set me up with all the needed accessories; iPad, Nook, all remotes, water, McCafe coffee, and a blanket.  So I should be on the couch napping, reading, or watching Netflix.  He trotted off to work this morning and instantly I was bored.   Here I am sitting at the computer working.  So if he reads today's post, I'll be in trouble.  If doesn't read it well then he might be in trouble because he should be reading my blog, am I right?

All I can think about is yesterday's blog post talking about how to get out of those frumpy looks we all are known to wear.  I posted two great tips and my mind is riddle with more ways to slim down your outfits.  So here are a couple more ways to can rework outfits to tighten up any look!

1. This is a layering rule I teach all my clients.  If when you are layering you lose the shape the garment you are doing it wrong.  You can see in the before picture you have no idea what shape the dress is under that bulky jacket.  In the after picture you can see that there is a waist line on the dress and we see the silky texture much more with the sweater cardigan instead of the linen jacket.  Adding the belt and the shorter 3rd piece brings out the skirt length of dress more too.

2.  This method of styling is what I call 'Nip & Tuck'.  In the first picture the dress just hangs we have no shape of the figure or the dress.  When we add a long open cardigan and belt over the dress we see a silhouette and a waist!  We are adding ways to 'Nip & Tuck' in at the waist.

3.  The trick is to lighten up the look.  In the before picture this great sheath dress is layered with a heavy jacket from a suit.  It's not bad but when you compare it to the after picture where we put the dress with a lightweight merino cardigan you can see more of the dress.  Sometimes I see my clients swimming in fabric when they put together an outfit.  Thin out the fabrication and shorten the layer and you instantly thin out.  You may also notice that in all of the after looks I make sure to show the wrist.  Your wrist is one of the most dainty parts of your body.  When you flash it a little it goes a long way ;)

4.  You may not think color makes a huge difference in how small you can look, but it does!  This before and after is probably one of the best examples I have.  In the first look the client resembles a floating could.  All you see is a mixture of grey and blue, you don't even notice what the pieces are or see the shape of the person wearing everything.  In the second look we did more contrasting colors by changing to a black jacket with structure (sleeves rolled).  Also we switched out the scarf for a pearl necklace to show the neckline and added a belt to create more of a frame.

Alright, I'm back to the couch!
